Do you want to be an accountant but aren’t sure if it’s the right choice for you? Research shows that seven out of ten accountants are very happy with their career choice. “"It 's an exciting time to be an accountant," said Bill Driscoll, a district president of Accountemps.” (“Accounting Tomorrow”) A summary of accounting includes a description of accounting different jobs, the education needed, the income expected and the chances of employment after college. An accountant can be a very confusing career for many people to understand. What most people see accountants as, are nerdy math people, but what people don’t know is that, without an accountant, businesses would be completely lost. Another factor in the decision of becoming an accountant is where you can make the most money. The lowest income state for accounting in the US is Hawaii making only $34,000 a year, but the highest is Washington DC, starting out making $70,000 a year (“Accountant Salary by State”). But, how much does it cost to live in Washington DC? In Washington DC, on average, people with a CPA make roughly $103,000 a year. Average CPA salaries for job postings in Washington, DC are 25% higher than average CPA salaries for job postings nationwide. (“CPA Salary In Washington, DC”) Although accountants will make more money yearly in Washington DC, than most places, it shouldn’t matter, if the price of living is more than the person makes. In a nicer area of Washington DC, rent is around $2,595 monthly. Transportation is probably one of the most expensive things about Washington DC. A monthly ticket for public transportation is about $198, but a taxi would be $21 everyday. Entertainment is something people don’t take into consideration when moving. Dinner for two at a nice Italian restaurant can be up to $91. It would cost $74 a month for a gym membership, and a pack of cigarettes is $7.
