Why Abortion should be Legal
Abortion can change a woman’s life, whether they undergo the procedure or if they are restricted against doing so. Today, abortion can be a very controversial matter, and there are many mixed feelings about it. People who are “pro-choice” support abortion being allowed, and those who are “pro-life” do not. However, legalizing abortion would have many benefits, specifically acknowledging women's rights when considering this option. If abortion is made illegal, other more dangerous issues may come into play. As moral civilians, abortion must be remain legal to respect each women's individual freedom, for victim protection, and the practical problems that will follow with banning abortion.
Women have a freedom to choose. It should be up to the woman to decide if she wants to keep the baby or not. She is carrying the fetus in her womb, and she should have full control over her body and what happens to it. No one else will undergo the pregnancy and therefore should not be entitled to determine the outcome for it. Also, if a woman was raped and gets pregnant, she should be able to decide whether or not she keeps the baby. The World Health Organization states that “Abortion does not end when it becomes illegal.” Banning abortion would just prompt women to seek illegal abortions that could potentially kill both the woman and the fetus. “When El Salvador banned abortions, 11% of women and girls seeking such abortions died.” The request for abortion will always remain; making abortion illegal, will just lead people underground and into situations where the health and safety of the woman would be placed at harm. Women that aren't lucky enough to live in good habitats may be compelled to go to foreign countries and experience underground unsafe abortions when abortion becomes
