In the real world (In reality), a hero could be a person who saves others’ lives; a hero could be a person who makes a dramatic change for humanity; a hero could be a person whose thought impacts on people forever. Throughout history, all heroes had done some significant achievements that normal people can not do. On the other hand, there exists a similar phrase as hero, called “role model”. In the article “Is a Hero Really Nothing but a Sandwich?”, Ted Tollefson (1993) states that “A hero does something worth talking about. A hero has a story of adventure to tell and a community who will listen. But a hero goes beyond mere fame or celebrity” (Utne Reader, p.1). He points out those heroes are the people who deserve to be discussed about by the whole society. For example, Martin Luther King, a hero who led the African-American Civil Rights Movement, is well-known throughout the world and is written about in many books and stories. Certainly, the impacts of heroes on society are more significant. In his book Carnegie, Peter Krass (2002), a famous American writer, overviews the life of Andrew Carnegie, an American businessman who contributed all his assets to charity after he ascended the social ladder. First of all, Carnegie used the commercial media to attract attention from governments. After he earned a great deal of money by a revolution of steel, he became one of the greatest philanthropists who assisted and connected peace among the world. Krass claims that heroes catch people’s creative spirit as they are amazed at their bravery. These heroes display the uncommon nature of extreme benevolence that influences humankind is respectable. Sometimes heroes may be tragic, but their spirit will impress people. There exist a great number of heroes in American history, for example, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King. These people’s experiences are all tragic, but their efforts effectively encourage the young to develop positive attitudes and contribute to a vibrant world. On the contrary, role models, whom people imitate, assist people in learning some excellent qualities in order to become a successful person. However, the impact of role models sometime is great to a specific individual person. But it is never as memorable and dramatic as heroes. A role models might be substituted when a new and more successful person appears in front
