Revenge, whose price might not worth paying for
Hamlet Analytical Essay: How Does Revenge operate in the text? In Hamlet , revenge takes many dramatic and uprooting turns. Revenge to each Character is interpreted differently. Shakespeare gave each character different presumptions and reasonings for revenge to give views of diffrent people in human society. The meaning of Revenge is defined as inflicting pain or harm on someone for injury or wrong suffering by their own hands. Shakespeare's definition of revenge is that revenge is hard to control thing that can get out of hand. Consequently revenge is an unfortunate undertaking whose price might not be worth paying. Revenge operates as sense of justice that becomes a corrupted idea when it is the motivation of the character. The main consequence is death. Every main character within the Denmark hierarchy experienced this. Death in Hamlet is symbolizing that whoever seeks revenge will end up dead by someone, by their own hand, or by coincidence. An example is when Hamlet murders Polonius on “accident”. Hamlet committed the murder of Polonius which brought him to suspicion to people. At this point Hamlet abandoned all control of his thoughts and impulse took over.
“For like the hectic in my blood he rages,
And thou must cure me. Till I know ‘tis done,
Howe’er my haps, my joys were ne’er begun”(4.3.75-77). This thought is bringing him physical pain because it brings strong feelings. He can not be happy until he knows that it has been taken care off. This is the consequence of revenge it can cause discomfort and self doubt to some one.
Revenge served as no purpose and benefit no one in Hamlet. It served as a urging matter that could not be satisfied no matter what all it did was make matters worse.
