First of all, the resident should keep her job and her love life separate. She should keep everything professional while being around the patient. Touching is a therapeutic communication. For the resident to hold his hand was a way of comforting the patient during this difficult time. But when the resident started to caress his forehead and lean in for a kiss at the end of the movie, that was inappropriate for a resident to do and also not the correct therapeutic communication. Nurses are the closest to the patient and we should always advocate for the patient even when it goes against our opinion and beliefs. The amount of support is beneficial to the patient because they feel like someone is listening to their feelings and problems. Also as a nurse, we should report when we see a doctor or any other healthcare professionals is doing something to the patient that is not right such as giving an injection that the patient doesn’t want or making a diagnose that isn’t correct. We could lose our license if we don’t say anything about it.
