Who is there to blame when tragedy strikes? We often find ourselves speechless when a finger is needed to be pointed at the cause of the disaster. Many factors can lead to a tragedy, which makes it difficult to single out one suspect, who can also be the one that we least regard. Romeo and Juliet, a play by William Shakespeare, portrays a clear example of this situation, as many characters in the play contributed to Romeo and Juliet’s death. However, the character most responsible for these two ‘star crossed lovers’ to take their own life is Romeo himself, because he can clearly be depicted as the ‘start of the fire’, and made the fatal mistake of being reactive instead of proactive when news came of Juliet’s death.
