In “Who’s Cheap” by Adair Lara, the author states her opinion about how women should change their view of financial activeness if they would like to acquire gender equality. According to the author, so far women have kept the concept that men must be the ones to pay for every date so as to show their carrying behavior and sweetness. In addition, women do not have to go by the old rules of men, but times have changed, and women can suck to get funds hers. However, men can be cheap and cannot be changed. As an illustration, Craig is considered “cheap” when he always complains about prices and asks Lara to help him pay for gas. It becomes an ingrained thought from one generation to another that men are financially responsible in relationships as well as marriage life. However, in my viewpoint, everything should be equal, and both genders, to some extent, need to take the financial responsibility in order to have a long-lasting relationship. Men may at first accept to pay for their lovers all the time; however, they may eventually get tired of spending money and feel unfair; this thought and feeling may lead to their rude behaviors sometimes. Nonetheless, attitudes and behaviors are considered cultural norms that are still there to regulate. In Lara’s date with Craig, the man was actually rude and stingy, which is different from being equal.
