You have probably been seeing the term 'eating clean' in the news, online and in magazines. New buzz words come and go - but the idea of eating clean isn't a new one. It's actually just getting back to the basic way of eating that our grandparents and great grandparents did without thinking about it. Fruits and vegetables from gardens, raising their own meat - all without thinking there was another way to eat.
What is a clean diet?
Clean eating is about eating 'real' food - foods that are not processed, and as close to being as natural as possible. How to increase the clean foods in your diet? It's not as hard as you might think.
Avoid additives
Avoid over processed foods
Avoid refined sugar
Cook your own meals

It may sound too easy - but buy as much food as you can that doesn't require a label! Base your diet around whole foods. Whole foods include fruits, unsalted nuts, seeds, vegetables, whole grains, free-range and grass-fed meats and low fat dairy products.

You can try natural sweeteners if you need to, but when you choose whole foods - there is little need to make them sweeter than they are in their natural state.

When you cook your own meals you are in control of what you put in your mouth - and the mouths of your loved ones. When your main foods are clean, whole foods, preparing a meal is easy and needs little preparation aside from chopping and cooking - and many don't even need to be cooked. Most whole food recipes are just as fast to prepare as one that comes from a box.
Spice it up!
Don't let the nay-sayers have the last word. Healthy food may have a reputation for being boring - but that's not the case. You can spice up a vegetable (or fruit) dish by adding herbs instead of salt or sugar, to give added flavor and
