William Bradford wrote about the turbulent journey across the Atlantic Ocean, their ship barely able to hold together. Specifically, their ship’s main beam began to buckle and break, and crewmembers…
Yet this tragic disaster improved safety for future ships. How? The sinking of the Titanic during the night of April 14, 1912 and the early morning of April 15, 1912, was a tragic disaster. This was truly the first global disaster for mankind, with passengers from North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa. Dan Bender said,” [as of 2010] Everyone has heard about the ‘unsinkable’ RMS Titanic, but 98 years removed, we have little connection to the disaster other than watching a movie or documentary.…
The Rivets: The rivets on titanic were unqualified. The Titanic had 3000 layer seamless steel plates, this proved that the steel plates were very firm, but the biggest problem was that the material of the rivets. The titanic used the wrought iron rivets rather than steel rivets. Even it is not strong as the steel rivets, the shipbuilding workers add cinder to wrought iron. This made the rivets become very fragile and easy to break.…
The Lusitania sank on April 30th, 1915, four years after the Titanic sank. It was a big ship, just as big as the Titanic. It was filled with people and cargo on its way to Liverpool. A German U-Boat-20 (Submarine) came that very same day and shot two torpedoes at it. The Lusitania sank in 15 minutes flat.…
Although there were many different factors that played a role into the sinking of the Titanic, the weather played a huge role into it. It was clear with no moon, and the sea was completely calm, making it hard to tell if any danger was ahead (Cummins). After the Titanic had hit the iceberg, only one ship answered its distress signals; the Carpathia, but it unfortunately came when too many people had died and the crew members on the ship were only able to rescue 700 survivors (“Titanic Sinking”). Many people died that horrific night, but it the outcome of deaths would’ve been smaller if the ship would have had enough lifeboats for all of the passengers on board. There wasn’t enough lifeboats on the ship because the company that the Titanic came from; the White Star Line did not want to clutter the deck of the first class (Schama).…
When the Titanic collided with the iceberg, the hull steel and the rivets failed because the hull body and rivets were made by brittle materials. At extremely high speeds, the brittle fracture caused plastic deformation. The reasons of plastic deformation include low temperature, poor properties of the hull steel, and high sulphur content of the material. When the Titanic disaster happened, each of these three factors was present: The water temperature was very low, the Titanic was travelling at a high speed and collided with the iceberg, and the hull steel contained high levels of Sulphur.…
2,200 people were on board the Titanic when it struck the iceberg. Out of those 2,200 people only 705 passengers survived. The tragedy of the Titanic was not the sinking, it was the lives that were lost at sea. To prevent losing so many brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, and children the workers who were putting the passengers into the lifeboats could’ve…
Human beings often wonder what their fate is, whether good or bad, only time will tell. In the historic tragedy of the Titanic, nobody predicted the fate of the ship to be so disastrous. Tragic stories are told about how the Titanic sunk, thousands died for something they could not control. Many argue about the causes, misconceptions or implications on why/how it happened but all proof points to mother nature.…
The Titanic “The ship took a sudden dip, and the sea came rolling up, carrying everyone with it. Many were drowned there and then (“Titanic Survivor’s Eyewitness Account”).” Have you ever wondered what really happened to the Titanic? There are numerous theses of the calamitous event, but no one knows what actually transpired. All we know is that the Titanic departed Southampton and had already visited Cherbourg, France, and Queenstown, Ireland, before heading towards New York City, where it supposedly hit an iceberg near the end of its voyage and sank with over half the passengers.…
A beautiful tragedy… in April of 1912 The Titanic sunk in the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Nobody knew it was going to be some of their last nights with their loved ones, or the last night they would enjoy the company of an acquaintance they may have come across on their trip on the fateful Titanic. “Not Even God himself Could Sink this Ship” says an Employee of the White Star Line. Passengers and crew members, music, and art work all went down and were forever lost that sad, unfortunate night The Titanic sank.…
Since the first galleys sailed the Mediterranean Sea, the world has seen a continuous evolution in respect to naval innovation. The addition of the steam engine to naval warships changed how ships not only operated but also revolutionized how ships were designed. Ship armor could now be thicker and heavier due to the propulsion that a steam powered engine allowed. Guns were also allowed to grow in size with the increased mobility of naval warships and the need to penetrate thicker armor. With all of the advantages that steam powered engines offered, the drawback was that it made the ships completely dependent upon fuel.…
The disaster of the Titanic was a tragedy, but to this day people are still wondering who/what was responsible for this tragic event. In my opinion I believe that it was Thomas Andrews the creator of this huge magnificent ship. In the Titanic book on page 22 the text states that he didn’t fully seal the top of the watertight compartments. Now that's one of the first things that I would check.…
On April 15th in 1912, one of the most tragic shipwreck happened. The Titanic ship sunk under the Atlantic Ocean after colliding with an iceberg. A lot of people died during the accident. Small number of available lifeboats was one of the main reasons that led to such a high number of deaths. Such factors as sex, class, age, and others also significantly contributed to the likelihood of survival.…
Does anyone know the real story about the Titanic? The sinking of the Titanic is a major part of our history. According to the “R.M.S Titanic”, “The White Star liner Titanic, largest ship the world had ever known, sailed from Southampton on her maiden voyage to New York on April 10, 1912.” Many assumed the Titanic was “unsinkable” because it “was believed to be the safest”. There were many passengers who had survived; however, less than ⅓ of the passengers did not survive.…
3. Because of these watertight compartments the Titanic was deemed and believed to be unsinkable. Transition: Now, I am going to discuss the warnings the Titanic received the day of the tragedy that were ignored and caused the Titanic to strike an iceberg. II.…
