Assassination of President Abraham Lincoln I am doing my research paper on the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln. I am going to tell you a little bit why and how the President was assassinated was it because of his goodness or was it because he tried to abolish slavery. Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by a man named “John Wilkes Booth”. Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States and the president had a wife and one son their names are Mary Todd Lincoln and Robert Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on “April 14, 1865” in Washington at a play called Our “American Cousin”. After Lincoln was shot he was carried across the street to a private home where he did the next morning at 7:22 A.M. on April 15, 1865. After Lincoln died they laid him across a table so the doctor could examine where through bullets went through Lincoln’s head. Lincoln’s doctor’s name was Dr. Charles A. Leale he examined Lincoln’s head searching for a puncture wound but he couldn’t find anything then he stripped Lincoln from the waist down and began searching again this time he ran his hand through Lincoln’s thick hair searching for a wound there. Leale noticed that Lincoln’s chest rose up and went back down. Dr. Leale said it was the flow of oxygen trying to get to his brain. Leale then started the resurrection on Lincoln but Lincoln kept slipping away slowly. Leale pronounced Lincoln dead at 7:22 A.M. on April 15, 1865. After Lincoln was shot Booth escaped and booth made it to Dr. Samuel Mudd home so that Dr. Mudd could treat his leg. Dr. Mudd asked booth what happened booth told Dr. Mudd it came from when his horse fell. Dr. Charles D. Brown did the autopsy on Lincoln’s brain. Dr. Brown said that when he was lifting the brain from his skull cavity the bullet suddenly dropped from his fingers on to the floor. Brown said that the bullet was a little black mass no bigger than the end of his finger. After the autopsy was completed they covered the body with a clean white sheet and took Lincoln’s suit back to his wife Mary. Booth was hiding in pine thicket In Charles County Maryland. Booth and Herold tried to escape by crossing the Potomac River but they failed and ended right back up to where they started from in Fort Royal Virginia.
