Who Was Scrooge Greedy

Decent Essays
There was once a man named Scrooge he was very greedy with his money. He hated to spend it too. This man named Scrooge looked like a greedy old person. His hair was all white. He was very, very well dressed. He had leather coats, good shoes. Also of course he had a mansion too. He had fancy glasses, leather coats, and good shoes. Sounds rich to me especially considering it was only 1843. I think that Scrooge felt up tight and like a jerk. Considering that he said “Instead of getting poor children presents for Christmas just put them in a prion or jail”. That’s pretty mean. I’m sure he doesn’t feel that he is being greedy but he truly is. This man is living his present world of the Christmas of 1843. He is in England when

The main point of this book was that we should pursue Radical devotion to Christ rather than pursue worldly comforts and passions. In Platt’s’ eyes this means giving portions of our wealth, and pursuing world missions, especially to those in radical need. However, he almost seems to suggest such pursuits as being godlier than others. He acknowledges that we are given wealth to use for the glory of God, but ignores the fact that He also gives it to be enjoyed as well. Furthermore, he does suggest Christians should be cutting down our living expenses to mostly necessities, while commending people who are selling all of their possessions almost randomly and pursuing missions.…

A common mindset among the rich of the Victorian Era was that those who suffered from poverty had only themselves to blame. The upper-class saw themselves as superior because of their money, and the poor were looked down upon and blamed for their condition. The rich refused to accept any responsibility to help the poor, or even be kind to them, seeing them as “another race of creatures bound on other journeys”. Dickens challenged this outlook, and was disgusted by it, so he wrote the novella A Christmas Carol with the intent to change people’s views of the poor and society’s responsibility to them. Scrooge, who represents the richer class, is introduced as the personification of winter, after which Dickens uses Fezziwig who is the antithesis of Scrooge as an employer; Bob Cratchit and his family; and Ignorance and Want, in an attempt to illustrate the need for a more compassionate society.…
