Cesare Lombroso, Raffaele Garofalo, and Enrico Ferri worked together to come up with the positivist school which stated that everything that happens to a person happened for a reason, their fate was predetermined. On April 15th, 2013 there were two bomb explosions that resulted in three deaths and over two hundred injuries at the Boston Marathon. Investigations led police to identifying two brothers, Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, responsible for the bombing. The positivist theory explains why Dzhokbar committed the crime he did and experienced incarceration at ADX Florence in Fremont County, Colorado. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was charged with conspiring to use a weapon on mass destruction, destruction of property, and murder of a police officer.

According to friends, Dzhokhar kept his personal life private. He never spoke about his family; the only family member that his friends ever saw was his brother, Tamerlan. The Tsarnaev brother’s parents separated in February of 2011, which left Tamerlan a father figure to his young brother. The separation of their parents affected Dzhokhar, he went from a kid who cared about school to someone who dreamt and had nightmares about killing others such as Abe Lincoln (Wines & Lovett, 2013).
