Even though Romeo and Juliet made the final choice to take their own lives at the end, other characters in this tragedy still influenced their decisions. It is shown from the beginning on the play that fate is one of the main themes of this play. Romeo and Juliet are referred to as “a pair of star cross’d lovers.” This means that their relationship was certain to fail from the start since it is believed that the stars control fate. But besides fate and the families, Friar impacted their decisions. When he married Romeo and Juliet, the rest of the problems soon followed. Another reason is he helps poison Juliet and does not deliver the letter in a secure way, so Romeo was unsure of what really happened. This makes him think Juliet is dead, so he takes his own life. When Juliet wakes up to find Romeo dead, the Friar makes his next mistake and leaves her. These reasons are what lead Romeo and Juliet to take their own lives, but this does not mean fate or the Friar are
