Who Was Responsible For Mme Loisel's Downfall

I believe that Mme Loisel’s character did contribute to her own downfall. I feel like in most of the story Mme Loisel felt she was higher than certain people at times. She did somethings that were unnecessary and she could have had a better way out. She couldn’t just be happy with a new dress for a ball she “needed” to have a new necklace to go with it, that she doesn’t have the money for. She was lucky enough for Mme Fortier to let her borrow it anyways.

When she lost the necklace she didn’t want to be honest with Mme Fortier and tell her that she had lost her necklace. If she would have been honest with Mme Fortier she probably been told that the necklace was fake and that it would be okay. Instead of that she decided to take upon herself
