George shot Gatsby not only because he thought Gatsby killed his wife but he believed that Gatsby was the one that had an affair with his wife, both which are not true. Even though he was a victim of the misconduct of the rich his actions were still wrong. He should have let the police do their work and bring justice but he did the opposite. Although he was in pain because of the death of his wife and was completely mad with grief. George committed a crime and his actions cannot be justified.
Tom is partly responsible for the death of Gatsby because he told George that the car that hit myrtle belonged to Gatsby and didn’t mention the fact that it was daisy that was driving the car when the accident took place. When tom found out about the affair between his wife and Gatsby he immediately despised him and intentionally misled George, knowing that he would kill the person responsible for his wife’s death. She caused the problem by killing myrtle and she did not have the decency to stop the car after the accident. This left Gatsby in trouble because his car was seen by multiple people at the scene so even if George didn't kill Gatsby, Daisy's actions still would have left Gatsby in trouble with the police. Most importantly she was the cause of the conflict between Tom and Gatsby. She claimed that she loved Gatsby but she betrayed him in the end and escaped with her
