On page 60, it states that “by 1860 [Lincoln] was being mentioned as a possible candidate for president.” This was ambitious because to become a president you have to be very ambitious, as you are running the country. This makes me think that anyone who runs for president must be very ambitious, perhaps even more than Lincoln had to. As can be seen, Lincoln was ambitious because he ran for president. I also believe that according to Russell Freedman, Lincoln was ambitious because Lincoln made a very passionate and ambitious speech, declaring slavery morally wrong. One part of Lincoln’s speech was that: “A house divided will not stand.”
