Who Was Harriet Tubman As An Abolitionist

Leadership was a huge step during the slave era. Whoever was an abolitionist had to be a great leader, one that nobody could ever replace. This is why I’ve chosen Harriet Tubman out of all the abolitionists, to represent leadership, and the qualities of leadership that are so hard to find in a person.

Harriet Tubman was born into slavery in March 1822, and everyone saw her as just a regular slave, working in the despairing heat in the day and sleeping in the freezing and windy cold night. Thus, Harriet was not like the others thought she was, and one night she escaped her captivity and ran off to experience freedom for the first time, swearing to herself that she would return to the others and free them.

When Harriet Tubman was only 12 years old, a 2-pound iron weight was being thrown at another enslaved African, but bravely, Harriet leaped in front of it, and it hit her aside the head. This caused her to become disabled, giving her Narcolepsy, or sleeping spells. But Narcolepsy never stopped her from doing the right thing, for she knew she had greater purposes in life, greater destinies. …show more content…
This is incredible, just think of how grueling it would be trapped there, and then one day you escape, feel freedom, feel like, for once, nobody wants to capture you. You cross the line, and you are free. You can go live your own life, make friends, and get a job like other people… Then, Harriet Tubman goes back to where she is not free and tries to free others.
