The author of,”Who understands me but me” by Jimmy Santiago Baca is about how he's in prison with other people going through the same problems. The poem goes into detail about his depression, he doesn't show that he's in prison, he gives details and shows he's not in a good state of happiness right now. The man writing the message sounds like he's done life, he is depressed and you can tell that because on line 4 of the poem he tells,”They lock my cage, so i live without going anywhere.” He shows that he's in this state of depression, which he cannot escape because people don't accept as by line 14,”They separate me from my brothers”...He can't be near his brothers because of his depression. The author is writing this poem in prison, some examples that show this is line 7,”They take my life and crush, so i live without a future.
