The book Night by Elie Wiesel and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s song “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story” there is a very common theme of wanting the future generations to understand and remember what you have gone through and what happened in the past. In the textbook on page 61 it is stated that “Our ever-alert brain attempts to make sense of the activity, pasting the random bits of information into a meaningful image.” After reading this sentence I was immediately reminded of a friend of mine who I will refer to as Katie in this assignment. Some time ago she spoke to me of an unusual and mysterious dream that she had the night before. She explained that her dream began with her and the whole neighborhood being locked inside their houses by fear from some type of monster that was roaming the neighborhood. After she dreamt this, the scene changed into an empty road with a kitten in the middle of the road.…

This is my first year of high school, and so far I am enjoying this year more than any of my previous years in elementary school at Aviston Elementary. In the past years, I was a stressed out loner who was easily annoyed by everything and could not get long-term projects done without having a melt down at some point. However, in this year that has changed. I have made a few friends who have stayed with me for the entire year, learned to tolerate immature, childish actions, and have not felt completely overwhelmed to this date. This year and previous years both had their moments, but I would not change anything that happened because they both helped make me who I am now.…

Fall of 2010 and spring of 2012 were the 2 semesters I was inactive after graduating from the University of San Diego. In the fall of 2010 I was acclimating to a life back in Los Angeles and actively looking for a position where I was serving others. I secured a tutoring position in an underserved community for students in grades k thru 12 in the areas of math, science, and English for a startup tutoring company called 1 On 1 Academic Tutors. My greatest competitive advantage became my hunger to succeed and to actualize the life that my parents envisioned for me when they migrated from Mexico. Within the year, I was promoted to Senior Contract Administrator and by fall of 2012 I was creating spreadsheets alongside graphs and analyzing them…

Over the duration of my senior summer I was allowed to experience many wonders as I transitioned out of one segment of my life to a new one; however, possibly to greatest experience out of the entire time period of my summer was my family's trip to six flags. We began planning for the trip months in advance saving money, gathering supplies, and making reservations. We toiled through this segment of planing making sure that all of the details of the trip would be perfect. Once all of our details were lined up ducks in a row and bags packed as if we were to stay for a month, we began travel on the an interstate that was as busy as an ant nest just before winter, as in when they begin to store food, but I digress we weaved through the traffic,…

Let me get one thing straight: I’m not in the business of crying. Crying equals weakness, so like most wannabe men growing up, my ducts were as dry as my mom’s attempt at cornbread. Opening up the still slender book of my life and leafing through to a random page, ninety-five percent of the time, the mood would be positive. I’m not saying that my book lacks trials and tribulations or moments of misery, but on the whole, melancholy moments reside in the minority, not the majority. Now crack the spine of the book.…

If, hypothetically, some sort of cosmic storm created an EMP signal or something of the other that rendered all digital equipment on earth inoperable, I would spend my time reading, playing ball games with my friends, hiking, biking, relaxing on the beach and enjoying nature in general. Also, I can give my eyes a break! Since our lives are constantly immersed in technology and activities, we can use the downtime to do what we don’t typically do — activities that require no electronics. Those activities would suddenly pop into the spotlight, and in that time, as the time period grew longer and longer, the use of electronics would become more and more obsolete until the hypothetical storm stopped.…

This article is, in my opinion, an example of how personal narrative can sometime confuse the author’s purpose. In order to frame her arguments she discussed her experiences with her family, and specifically how she was born a twin to a stillborn sister. She explains her families lack of coping and how her family effected her life, but I failed to focus on the overarching idea that she wanted to get out because of how distracting the stories from her personal life are. Instead found myself thinking that her story was strangely personal without much justification for why it was this way. While the point of her article, the balance between truth and respect, was somewhat present overall, the sections of personal narrative that she decided to include muddled it.…
