Who Killed Jonbenét Argumentative Essay

Great Essays
The question, “Who killed JonBenét?” may be as mysterious as, “Was there a person on the grassy knoll?” The murder of JonBenét has spurred at least eight television episodes, mini-documentaries, or special reports - and in September 2016 (during our class), another show which touts new DNA evidence (IMDb, 2016).
The more I read, the more confused I became, this was/is a messed up case to say the least. There are so many items to be considered as key elements and critical facts that my intention is to focus on a few specific items rather than discuss all the missteps of the police, coroner, the unusual behaviors of the parents, and other people invited into the crime scene. It goes without saying that the police did a poor job of securing

Official and unofficial accounts report that the mother, Patsy Ramsey, called 911 at 5:52 a.m. in a panicked state, she told 911 dispatchers that her daughter had been kidnapped. A review of the 911 transcripts leads me to believe that Patsy knew, rather than suspected, JBR was kidnapped when she stated “we have a kidnapping”. I believe a normal statement would be something to the effect of “my daughter has been kidnapped or taken”, which leads me to question Patsy’s movements or sequence of actions prior to calling 911(Reddit, 2015). My first question, what was she doing up at that hour the day after Christmas? Where was the father, John Ramsey, at this hour? My research has turned up little as to the events of the parents prior to the call. I was able to find that they had a party/get-together the day before on Christmas, but, where were they, what did they do before the discovery of the ransom note? This also leads to the conflicting accounts of Patsy. She initially stated that she went to check on JBR, and when she found that she was not in her room, she went down stairs and found the note on the stairs. Later, in another interview, she stated she found the note then went to the room to check on her, then called 911 (Behm, …show more content…
The first unusual aspect of the note is that it was 2/3 pages in length. FBI experts in kidnapping have stated that it was the first time such a note had ever been left (Las Vegas Review Journal, 2015). The note was addressed to Mr. Ramsey, no mention of the wife; it had specific elements that only people close to Ramsey would know, such as the amount of his Christmas bonus (same amount as the ransom). The choices of words indicate that the author was well educated (or as others theorize, of foreign dissent as stated in the note). For example, the instructions were for the money to be put into an “attaché case” rather than briefcase or suitcase. The author also used a proper term for a deceased person – remains – rather than “body” when describing the consequences for failing to adhere to the demands exactly. The demand for how the money was to be packaged and in what dominations was also strange, along with the timing. $100,000 was to be in $100.00 bills and the rest ($18,000) in twenties. The timing was also an issue, the note said he (Ramsey) would be contacted between 8-10 a.m., there is no way he could have gotten the money before then, then be back home and ready to deliver the money - a withdraw of this magnitude would alert authorities as well. The remaining issue with the note was the paper in which it was written, from a pad inside the home - and so was the pen believed

He got angry and hit her on the head with the flashlight.…

Over the course of the years, many have been wrongfully convicted and accused of crimes they did not commit. The mission of the judicial system is to prove your guilt and if they can successfully do so beyond a reasonable doubt, then you will be convicted of that crime. Everyone walks into the court innocent until proven guilty, but unfortunately some proven guilty people are still very much innocent. In one case where this so happened to be true was during the case of Brenton Butler. Brenton Butler was accused of allegedly robbing and murdering an elderly woman at a nearby hotel in his hometown Jacksonville, Florida.…
