His pride took over and he wanted to be great and famous but didn't think of the consequences. He is a very smart man and this drives him to his downfall. He wanted to gain knowledge no other human had discovered yet and because of pride, be known for his knowledge. He also had too much pride to admit his wrong doing and that he is responsible for the deaths of family members in a way. Victor realizes his own error and accepts the consequences. When the creature wants to talk to him he agrees because he knows he has been wrong just leaving him. Then when he refuses to create a companion for the monster he accepts the consequence that the monster will be with him on his wedding night and prepares to fight, and when his family is all dead accepts that he is the reason for all this and needs to destroy the monster. The audience feels victor’s punishment far exceeds the crime. Victor probably shouldn’t have created life from non life, but did. Even when he did this, he shouldn’t have just left the monster all alone to fend for himself. However, due to this Victor falls ill several times due to the stress and disappointment of it, and due to depression from Henry’s death. The monster also kills his brother William, his best friend Henry, and even his wife
