Who Is To Blame In Shakespeare's Macbeth?

Decent Essays
In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, have you ever wondered who was more to blame for Macbeth’s downfall, Macbeth, or Lady Macbeth? In my opinion, Macbeth was more to blame for his downfall. One reason that Macbeth was more to blame for his downfall than his wife was that he was so power-hungry, that he took the Three Witches' prophecies to heart and went along with his wife's plan to kill Duncan so he could become King of Scotland. Another reason that Macbeth was more to blame for his downfall than his wife was that he planned to kill Banquo and his son because the Three Witches prophesied that Banquo's kids would become king. A third reason that Macbeth was more to blame for his downfall than his wife was that he planned the murder of Lady Macduff and

Numerous individuals may believe this is enough evidence to show that Macbeth was the true evil, as he was also the one who went into Duncan’s chambers and committed the act. However, Lady Macbeth viciously insisted on Macbeth gaining the throne, even whilst he was having second thoughts, and convinced him to do so by annihilating Duncan. Without his wife, Macbeth would not have had anyone to push him to continue on when he was having doubts, and so, Macbeth most likely would not have committed the murder if his wife hadn’t manipulated him into doing so. “The sleeping and the dea are but as pictures; ‘tis the eye of childhood that fears a panting devil.” (II.ii.57-59). In my own opinion, Lady Macbeth can be considered more guilty than Macbeth for Duncan's murder; she is willing to go above and beyond to get the job done, she placed more innocent lives at risk, she pushed her husband to do things he is not ready for, and finally she showed little emotion while doing so. Although Macbeth is the one who assassinated King Duncan just as much blame can be put on Lady Macbeth as the outcome would have been much different without her. The only difference between Lady Macbeth and her husband is Lady Macbeth stopped killing after…
