Romeo and Juliet, was written as a love story, and a tragedy. Although Romeo and Juliet got married, they brought the Montagues and the Capulets together.The Capulets and Montagues were very large rivals that would do anything but love each other. Romeo loved Rosaline until he went to the party at the Capulets’, and later fell in love with Juliet and were soon to marry. As Shakespeare wrote in the prologue of “The Tradgedie of Romeo and Juliet”, “A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life” (DBQ:Project, 2013). This means that love will take over their lives and they would love each other forever. In this case, this would be the way of bringing the Capulets and the Montagues together to end the feud. Romeo and Juliet loved each other from first sight, yet Romeo was a Montague and Juliet was a Capulet. If anyone were to have found out that they were married, the families would have fought each other until they all died. Referring to the quotation, Shakespeare is stating that the Capulets and Montagues are alike because of how they have a high social class and status. This would lead to a conflict reasoning from their ancient grudge that the families have.
