Who Is To Blame For The Crucible

It is hard to say who is the one to blame for what occurs in The Crucible, with that being said many people can be blamed and the blame falls more on certain people than others. The main reason all these things started happening in Salem was because a group of girls go dancing in the woods with a slave named Tituba. A minister named Reverend Parris witnessed these girls dancing in the woods. Reverend Parris’s daughter Betty falls into a coma and a witchcraft expert is called by the name of Reverend Hale. This is what starts all of the situations in Salem. Although one would say that the blame falls all on the girls who were dancing in the woods, some would also say the blame is on the minister who caught the girls in the woods.

The girls in the woods could be blamed for all of this because after this incident the minister's daughter went into a coma and rumors of witchcraft started to come up around town. Although, the reason it could not be plausible is that the whole town would be affected by ergot poisoning and not just a certain group of girls. Next, the girls were believed to be bored of their quit Puritan life and that blaming people for witchcraft was for them to do something different in their boring life. I believe this is also true, because in one of the articles it said that Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Parris would talk about witchcraft and try to envision people's futures. The explanation could really just be that the girls were bored of their life, which is a true factor the life a _Puritan girl was not the most exciting.…

Were the "afflicted" girls really afflicted? Some historians reason that at the time, Puritans were afraid of women gaining independence and freedom (The Salem Witch Trials). Perhaps the young women were just seeking attention and power over others (“Witchcraft in Salem”). There is reason to believe that the accusers were merely conspiring against others in the village. Could Reverend Parris and Thomas Putnam have attempted to destroy their personal enemies?…

The events that took place during The Crucible by Arthur Miller clearly illustrate guilt as the motivating factor in the many false convictions and deaths of twenty people.
