He is the one that fought with Mercutio, starting the brawl between the people of the house of Montague’s and Capulet’s that were there. It was Tybalt that stabbed Mercutio under the arm of Romeo. Tybalt gets the most blame from most characters because he was the one who killed Mercutio. One person some people wouldn’t think to blame for Mercutio’s death is Mercutio himself. Before the brawl began, he taunted Tybalt ,calling him the “king of cats” (Shakespeare, 1597) then keeps referring to him as a cat ,threatening to “take one of your (Tybalt’s) nine lives”. Mercutio is a person who doesn’t take much seriously, but takes offense on the way Tybalt treats Mercutio just because he hangs out with Romeo, so Mercutio treats Tybalt harshly as well. Mercutio played that dangerous game, knowing how much of a hot-head Tybalt is. The person that is the most responsible for Mercutio’s death is Mercutio. Tybalt is the one that reacted to Mercutio’s taunting as well as being the one that stabbed him, but Mercutio is the one who taunted Tybalt, knowing how much of a hot-head he is also how he would react. Romeo is the one that Tybalt was there for but he tried to calm down the situation while Mercutio riled everyone up more. These reasons lead me to believe that Mercutio himself is the person most responsible for his own

The next reason why Tybalt is to blame for both of the deaths is because of what he says affects what happens to them. As Romeo enters the room Tybalt calls Romeo a villain meaning that he started throwing insults first and that Romeo is evil in his perspective. As they talk Tybalt says to Romeo “Therefore turn and draw” (3.1.63) which shows that Tybalt was first to say that he wanted to start a fight first, before Mercutio did. Even though some may believe that Mercutio is to blame for the deaths, most of the evidence points to tybalt because of his actions, feelings and what he says. Although Mercutio insults tybalt first by saying he is a rat catcher.…

In Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, the cause of Mercutio's death can be attributed to the circumstances that surrounded the two families. The friction between the Capulets and Montague's family environments was quite a hostile one which supported multiple violent acts. The emotional conflict between the families certainly played a dominant role in the death of Mercutio.…
