Who Is To Blame For Beowulf's Death

The night the Geats and Danes celebrate the death of their enemy, Grendel bad things happen. Grieving from her son’s death, Mama Grendel, stalks through the dark hallways of Heorot to seek revenge of his killer. The unprepared warriors were not ready for her appearance but when they woke she fled in fear. Without the presence of Beowulf she escaped taking Hrothgar, king of the Danes, wingman with her. Hrothgar depressed with the news and calls for Beowulf to defeat Grendel’s mom. In preparation for the battle Hrothgar gifts Beowulf with more treasure and promises him to take care of his men and send all his riches to his uncle in Geatland if he does not make it through the battle. The battle lasted a while with Beowulf fighting with his bare hands until he spotted an ancient sword. Using that sword to stab her with in the back of the neck, killing her almost instantly. Searching his surroundings he finds Grendel’s body. He then cuts off the head to take with him as a victory prize. The blood from Grendel’s body seeped up to the surface of the ocean causing the Danes to believe Beowulf was dead. But his men stayed hopeful that he was still alive. As Beowulf returns to the top of the sea he is greeted by his men. They return to Heorot and celebrate his victory. There he is praised by Hrothgar as he tells him about his battle.
