Two daughters, of an English Colonel named Munro, need to escorted through the treacherous wilderness filled with Indians whom they encounter throughout their journey. Magua, a Huron, who is the antagonist is seeking revenge against Colonel Munro and going after the colonel’s daughters is a way to seek his revenge. Uncas, son of Chingachgook, who is one of the two last remaining of the tribe Mohicans. It is the late 1750s and it is on a wild frontier in present day New York. For someone to love and seeking revenge at the same time is disaster.

Whenever Magua captured Cora, who is one of the daughters of Colonel Munro. Magua was always pursued by the others who were trying to rescue Cora. Uncas was always there even on the where he avenged his loved one but his own life was taken away.
Theme
The main theme of the story was of romanticism. Where Magua, the antagonist, was madly in love with Cora, whereas Uncas was also in love with Cora. Both characters were fighting one another for Cora’s love. In the end of the story Uncas was loyal and kept fighting for Cora but he was unfortunately killed by Magua, who was later shot and killed.

One of the important periods in American Literature is the Romantic period. James Fenimore Cooper was considered the pioneer of American national literature at that time. The most notable of romance of the American frontier was called “The Leatherstocking Tales” whose collection of five was written by James Cooper. They were stories about the Indian life. The Last of the Mohicans showed Cooper’s special writing skills which was about flight, pursuit, and capture and that was in the literature of adventure, Cooper’s characteristic showed to us
