The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This story took place in a town on Long Island. In Fitzgerald novel, he illustrates the reality of wealthy people and their lavish parties, and luxury home. The novel focuses mainly on Jay Gatsby, a wealthy man who lives in a huge house next to the narrator. Throughout the novel, Gatsby is trying to win back the woman of his past. The woman that Gatsby is in love with, Daisy is already married. When Gatsby was sent off to war, Daisy married another wealthy man Tom Buchanan. Both men are in love with Daisy and they refuse to let her go. Throughout the novel, Tom and Gatsby made poor decisions to win Daisy. He uses his power and wealth to get what he wants. He mistreats Daisy. He even went as far as in having an affair with Myrtle. Tom action’s is the reason Daisy was having an affair with Gatsby (130). On the other hand, Gatsby showed great optimism. He didn’t look down on people. He was a dreamer and he loved Daisy. Gatsby believed that he could change the past and Daisy would fall in love with him again (110). Gatsby is uneasy that Daisy still loves Tom even though he mistreats her. Tom thought he was untouchable, and therefore he could do whatever he wanted. He realized that Daisy was capable of leaving him. Given the extremely negative light in which Tom is portrayed, Daisy still chooses to stay married to him instead of leaving him for Gatsby. Gatsby believed that all he had to do was become wealthy, and Daisy would wait for him. Instead Daisy was looking for stability, someone that could take care of her.
