In her diary, Anne Frank, much like George Orwell, has a “desire to push the world in a certain direction” and to emphasize the kind of society other people should begin to strive toward. A Jewish teenager living in Holland during the Holocaust, Anne is forced into hiding and must bear witness the atrocities and anti-semitism brought forth by Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. Using a diary she received for her birthday, she recounts her life during the Holocaust and her views on the world and how they gradually change as time goes on. Anne doesn’t actively strive to change the world or society too an extreme, however she does give the reader insight on how she felt during this time in her life and how things should be different.
