Although Poe's story "The Cask of Amontillado" is a murder story, there is no investigation of murder. Murderer is telling the story himself. Story is totally based on some previous incident which is not written in this story, so story is having lack of evidence. Fortunato was always belittling Montresor and feeling competition with Luchesi. And Competition with Luchesi was the most important facet for Montresor's success in murder. There is no further evidence in the story except for competition.
