Guy Montag is the not so loveable and rather bland protagonist in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. With his lack of character depth, there’s no wonder why so many are against him. However, who is the main villain that Montag battles for the 150 or so pages of the novel? Some would argue that it is Captain Beatty the evil head of the firefighters who plays with Montag’s head and leads him to burn his books. But this would be far too easy to assume. The true antagonist in Fahrenheit 451 is the accumulating use of television and it’s ever growing hordes of “mindless zombies”. Although television can’t necessarily have a personal motive against Montag, it is significantly detrimental to his life and those around him. Take into consideration, Mildred.
