Who Is The Pardoner's Tale

My favorite text from this semester was the story called “The Pardoner’s Tale” by Geoffrey Chaucer. This is my first favorite text from the semester because of how much Chaucer uses the character of the Pardoner to attack the Roman Catholic church. He makes the character of the Pardoner and Summoner very greedy; just as the church was in the 1300’s of Chaucer’s time. As history will already tell, the Roman Catholic church was greedy during the Middle Ages or Dark Ages. So this fits well into the story of the “Pardoner’s Tale.” I also have a great love of the man Geoffrey Chaucer and how he used the characters from his series called the Canterbury Tales to attack not only the greed of the Roman Catholic church but also the hypocrisy of the church, the social class, and the Patriarchy. The next favorite story of mine is “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” by the same author, Geoffrey Chaucer. This is a favorite story of mine because of how Chaucer uses the character of the Wife of Bath to attack the Patriarchy. Chaucer used the Wife of Bath and her tale to “really” attack the Patriarchy. Her tale is about a woman who is used as the person in charge of the house. She controls …show more content…
This is a love story. It is about the man known as Federigo who had a good life. He was in love with a woman. That woman’s name was Monna Giovanna. So when he has tried numerous times to get her to pay attention to him, he decides he has had it with trying to get her to notice him and goes to live in the country. That is when her son gets sick and he wants the only possession that Federigo kept, his falcon. When she visits him, he then cooks her a meal of his falcon. She then asks him for the falcon and he proceeds to tell her that what they ate was the falcon. This is a favorite story of mine because it is what can be described as the tragic story of love and how love can also show how love can be very

Chaucer’s purpose in writing the Canterbury Tales is to teach people lessons in life. Like in Pardoner’s Tale the lesson is that death is evil and sly and that greed is most evil out of the seven deadly sins. Or in the Wife’s Bath Tale the lesson in this book is always keep your word and lust isn’t always beautiful. I believe that was Chaucer’s reason for writing these…

How far back does greediness effect a person concerning their thinking and judgement? Greed is the wanting or desire for wealth, power, and status. After reading Geoffrey Chaucer’s stories “The Pardoner’s Tale”, “The Wife of Bath’s Tale”, and “Le Morte d’Arthur”, one thing that really stood out was that greed plays a part in each of these stories. And mind you, these stories were written around the year 1400 give or take. I realized that greed can play a part in almost anyone’s reasoning or logic.…

Change is inevitable. This fact remains true when examining literature from the Anglo-Norman, Medieval, and Early Renaissance eras. Throughout these times, femininity is a common thread interlaced into every story and sonnet. Marie de France: Lanval, The Canterbury Tales, Amoretti and Sonnet 130 all illustrate the paradigm shift in empowerment of women. Marie de France: Lanval, is an Anglo-Norman story following the life of an envied knight detailing his service and demise under King Author.…

Wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony, these are the seven deadly sins. Each one is said to send a person to Hell, where the one who committed that sin lives out their eternal punishments. At the time, pardons were bought to lessen a person’s eternal punishment in Hell by a few years. Even though the Pardoner in “The Pardoner 's Tale,” an excerpt from The Canterbury Tales, preached against these horrible sins, he does not follow his own advice and is guilty of every one of the sins.…

In medieval times, Chaucer wrote Canterbury Tales to express his views on social class. Most of the characters in the story have some sort of connection to the church. Chaucer divided these characters in descending order, from the most noble and honorable individuals to the ones who take advantage of the church and are not decent human beings. Chaucer was very aware of the fact that even the people who were perceived to be righteous due to being part of the church were exactly the opposite. The Pardoner in Canterbury Tales is a good example of someone who took advantage of his power of being a church member.…

The first statement mentions that “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” is a transformation story about a flawed or ugly woman who has to be rescued or restored by the right man. However, the plot that the question has stated does not appeared in both the prologue and the tale. Even though there is an appearance of an ugly old woman in the last part of the tale, it is not that she has been rescued or restored by a man. Instead, it was more like the old woman is teaching the man that he cannot judge a person by their appearance or their class in the society. As a result, I personally agree with the second idea where it said that “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” is an early tale of feminism showcasing the ways a female character gains power within a repressive,…

During the time of Geoffrey Chaucer and for thousands of years before, the society of the world was very patriarchal. Nearly every aspect of a woman's life was beneath a man's. This was especially evident in marriage. Women were expected to do their duty to their husbands and not wander beyond the boundaries of what was culturally acceptable for them. This view on women influenced many writers.…
