Strengthening skills through interaction builds both confidence and competence. As empowerment reaches an all time high, adaptation on the part of a leader uses this style as a clear inspiration to boost productivity (Kouzes and Posner, 2012). Thinking in this manner is clearly flawed and research has proven that effective leaders can not accomplish astonishing results without the help of a team of individuals. Collaboration builds on the skills of each member while limiting weakness through the support of the whole team. Trust is essential for all team members to effectively accomplish goals and a leader must structure projects in order to make team members realize just how vital each person’s contribution affects the outcome of the mission (Kouzes and Posner, 2012). When leading the Tactical Impact Unit, John Novy’s span of control was large and difficult to manage at times.
