Suddenly Darren’s sister barges into his room and startles him, causing him to lose control of Madam Octa. Madam Octa then bites and fatally wounds Steve in the process of this commotion. Darren then panics and runs off to go find Mr. Crepsley for the spider antidote, but in order to pay it off Darren had to become Mr. Crepsley's vampire assistant. In order to save his best friend's life Darren agrees and becomes a half-vampire. Mr. Crepsley says that Darren could no longer live a human life and that he had to break free away from this past in order to be a vampire. So Mr. Crepsley fake Darren’s death by breaking his neck and throwing him out the window. Since Darren is half-vampire his wound heals up quickly, then a normal person would. Darren’s family, then holds a funeral and buried his body in the cemetery. At night when no one is to be seen, Mr. Crepsley digs Darren up so he can finally be his vampire assistant and that is how the book ended. As you can see the flyer is really important in the story because without it all of this would of never been possible. Darren would still of been a human and living his normal life. No one would of been injured from the spider and everything would've finished off perfectly. Unfortunately, that's not how the story ended and it has a much deeper sadder
