Improved Essays
As of right now I am in my early thirties. I have had three decades of life experience, and though that may not be very much time considering I learn many new things every day that contribute to my growth, but there certain personality traits that I have exhibited since childhood.
I was born in Pennsylvania and lived here until I was seven years old, during this time in my life my mother and I were in a very abusive relationship with my adoptive father. He was an extreme alcoholic and drug addict, who was also very good at manipulation. We had to leave in the middle of the night to escape him, and we traveled to Connecticut to live with my maternal Grandmother. She was not a very nice women at the time we moved in with her, only two of her

I always tried to find the good in people, this is something that I struggled with growing up, I tend to give people many chances, and forgive people easily. I think this is why I tend to gravitate towards the humanistic theorist because I think most people tend to be good. Agreeableness is defined as “Agreeableness is a personality trait manifesting itself in individual behavioral characteristics that are perceived as kind, sympathetic, cooperative, warm and considerate. In contemporary personality psychology, agreeableness is one of the five major dimensions of personality structure, reflecting the individual difference in cooperation and social harmony. People who score high on this dimension tend to believe that most people are honest, decent, and trustworthy” (Costa,2010). This tends …show more content…
I tend to be more open to new things, and creativity. I have always like learning new things, and while in a school setting I may have been more hesitant, I always loved learning about other cultures, art, religions, and life experiences. I learned sign language, at a young age to communicate with the people my mom worked for. I then learned more when I began skateboarding, and I made friends with a couple guys who were deaf. I still tend to do this I will read a book on a subject, and I will need research more on the subject to make sure I can properly discuss it. Openness is defined by Costa and McRae as “Openness has moderate positive relationships with creativity, intelligence, and knowledge. Openness is related to the psychological trait of absorption, and like absorption has a modest relationship to individual differences in hypnotic susceptibility” (Costa,2010). I normally do not judge anyone and try to be accepting to everyone. I also love to learn about many people, I love how we are all so different, and nothing makes me happier than being exposed to a new culture or way of

Doing this, I had a fairly easy time picking out specific personality traits but I had a difficult time figuring out when/ where I acquired these certain traits. I believe the reason this homework assignment was hard was because I was thinking with the mindset of things happening at certain times in my development. This information relates to my life because I always viewed my life, not in theories, but in stages. I believed that by a certain age I was supposed to accomplish and learn certain things.…

The Less Travelled Path Based on the Myers-Briggs personality test analysis, only 0.8% of the population possess an INTJ personality type (Anon, 2014) and I am proud to say that I belong to this minority group. Honestly, having an INTJ personality brings a lot of advantages to my mental well-being especially when it comes to fighting my inner self-doubt. Moreover, INTJs are known to be “imaginative yet decisive, ambitious yet private and amazingly curious” (Anon, 2014) but they do not allow negativity to affect their life. On most occasions, I strive to remain rational even if all hell breaks loose.…

I found the theories based on traits and Freud's theory of psychosexual development the most interesting. I found the five-factor model of personality interesting because it is made up of five broad traits and efficiently describes how they contribute to a person’s personality; it is not limited or complex, making it easier to understand and see the correlations. Freud’s theory proposed an interesting perspective on personality. He describes personality as having three sides to it: id—present at birth, later retreating and becoming unconscious--; ego—meaning “I” in Latin, rational and logical seeking to satisfy the needs of the id (hunger, thirst, self-preservation, and sex)--; and the superego—the moral center of personality. Freud also believed that children go through a serious of psychosexual stages in which the id focuses on erogenous zones.…

For what’s known, having the chance to meet people leads into more relationships and a healthier life with trustworthy people. Though whenever that new person arises into your life, everyone has the tendency to judge by just a glance of head to toe. What they wear, the color of their skin, the emotion they convey, the way they talk: all aspects of a person taken in to decide whether or not they are likable in the first place. The tendency to judge: the first three Jenga blocks of the tower. The definition of people has never been about the individual but preferably the interesting story worth believing about the individual.…
