I was told many times that basketball is not designed for me. I accepted the challenge and in 4 years I was receiving “the best player” award from the head of country sport committee. I also participated in basic clinical practices and as a result gained more knowledge of the clinical trial field and had the opportunity to understand through hands on practice aspects of management. Yesterday in clinical I was on the labor and delivery unit. As everyone know, mom and baby is not my preference. For me, the problem is not caring for mom or even seeing a delivery, it is caring for the tiny baby. I wanted to be on the labor and delivery side because I hoped to see a delivery. There was one delivery on the unit, but unfortunately the mom was not receptive to having a student in the room.…

I’m not a very tall person, 5’9” to be exact, so I was always told I wasn’t big enough to play sports. My friends said I wouldn 't play much, and my coaches did the same. I used that as a form of motivation to keep getting better and proving them wrong. I was on the basketball team and I have memories of being told by community members that I wasn’t tall enough and that I should take the winter off. I used that to fuel my fire and started on the basketball team my senior year and led the team in points, assists, and steals.…

My First Clinical Day Five days ago on February 3rd of 2016 was my first clinical day in the Rehabilitation Center in Key West. Today, before starting to write my weekly journal I started to ask myself how I felt on my first day at the clinic?. Four words came to my mind, pride, joy, fear and anxiety. Pride and joy because I am proud of where I’ve come so far as being an immigrant who came to this country as many others looking for their dream without knowing the language or even the culture. Fear and anxiety because I was nervous about having the feeling of not knowing anything, not knowing about what I would find there, the site or even the people.…

The Struggle To Recover Ever since I started playing, I’ve always loved the game of basketball and the exhilarating rush that it gave me. My favorite aspect of it was being part of a team and seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces as the ball went through the hoop and we scored a few points. One day, I began to have chest pains; thinking that it was completely normal for an athlete, I ignored it and continued to play basketball. The first time I couldn’t breathe was in practice a few years back, I told my coach and went straight to the trainer.…

The nurse led me to the patient 's room right away.…

Throughout the course, I learned different aspects of project management, and skills that can be used in the everyday life as long as involve interacting with other people. In this class I learned about how to be a better team member. This semester I was reminded of how important communication is and how people need to keep emphasizing it as one of the most important skills any person could possesses. The personality test was useful, I think it gave all of us a good way to start to see how everyone is different. It made it easier for each of us to better understand one another in how our unique personalities can be a challenge when working with others.…

Learning Basic Medical Science has allowed me to learn a variety of new things that I had never even heard of before or done before like immunohistochemistry, solving case studies, and T1/T2 translational research. Immunohistochemistry was really interesting and complex. At first, I overlooked it because I thought it was my over my head and not applicable to me at the moment. Then, over time I noticed that we talked about it several class periods, so clearly it had some significance to us currently.…
