Who Is The Beast In Lord Of The Flies

The Beast Within Us Behind the mask of the frightful beast lies a person consumed by fear, blinded by his inability to comprehend his actions. In the novel “Lord of the Flies”, by William Golding, It shows a group of boys on their way back home when they crash land on an island and must learn how to survive with no adults. Throughout the story we see how the boys become savage and start to lose their minds. Their fear causes them to become ruinous and unaware of their actions. In the video “Monsters due on maple street”,directed by Rod Serling, It shows how an entire neighborhood goes chaotic after their power goes out and think an alien is among them. In the novel “Lord of the Flies”, by William Golding, Simon begins to hallucinate that the pigs head swarming with flies is talking to him. The “lord of the flies” tells him “...And I’m the Beast. . . . Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! . . . You knew, didn’t you? I’m part of you?...”. In Monsters due on maple street when Charlie fear gets the best of him and shoots Pete Van Horn because he thought he was the monster is the same thing that happened in “Lord of the Flies” when Simon is on his way back from the forest to tell the boys what he has discovered and the boys kill him thinking he is the beast. In both of these stories fear and the evil within the character got the best of them and caused them to make a tragic accident.
