Who Is The Antagonist In Odd Thomas

There are four antagonists in Odd Thomas. Two of them are police officers, Simon Varner and Bern Eckles, and two of them aren’t, Bob Robertson a.k.a. “Fungus Man”, and Kevin Gosset. Varner, Eckles, and Gosset had known each other since they were fifteen. They were devout satanic cult members. They ran into Robertson sixteen months before the failed mall shooting, and wanted to kill him because of his mother’s wealth, but they discovered that he was willing to spend money on their plan. Because of this discovery, they allowed Robertson into their ranks. They then killed Robertson's mother for the money, and made it look like she died in a car accident. They then came up with a plan that would eventually destroy the town they selected with well-planned horrors. They eventually selected Pico Mundo because it wasn’t too small to be uninteresting, but not too big that it would be impossible to ruin. After Odd became suspicious of Robertson after he came to the Pico Mundo Grille and saw all the bodachs following him. He then had the chief of police, Wyatt Porter, do a background check with the help of Eckles. Green Moon Mall was the first target in their plan to destroy Pico Mundo. Their plan was that Eckles and Varner would shoot up the mall, they would arrive at the mall as police officers, carrying their guns, ski masks, and jumpsuits in a suitcase as not to raise suspicion. Eckles would infiltrate the security room in his police uniform, and kill the guards in the room.
