The characters in “Don’t Call Me ISHMAEL”
The main protagonist in “Don’t Call Me ISHMAEL” is Ishmael Leseur (I know, really shocking, right?) Ishmael is a character who doesn’t show a lot of strength, and also believes that he has an "imaginary" disorder called "Ishmael Leseur Syndrome" (Wow so creative) which apparently makes even the most normal person a walking timebomb made out of awkwardness, clumsiness and a slash of stupidity. This style of writing means the readers might be more connected and affected by the character making the reader feel awkward, sad, and happy it's basically a roller coaster of emotions. The novel is written in Ishmael's perspective (The fancy way to say the first person). The writing style also intrigues readers to read on and keeps them interested in the developing story. This style of writing (first person) has helped me connect to Ishmael in particular as I feel like I am right next to him when I was reading, laughing along with the jokes and feeling awkward when Ishmael is talking to his crush. The writing style can definitely help other teenagers connect to the humorous and light-hearted events that Ishmael goes through during the
