Who Is The Antagonist In Catherine Called Birdy

In Catherine Called Birdy, there are three main characters two antagonist and one protagonist. There are different characters in the book that affect Catherine in a positive way, but the main characters affect Catherine the most which is Catherine, Shaggy Beard, and Rollo. Shaggy Beard and Rollo are the antagonist so that leaves Catherine to be the protagonist. Catherine describes her father to be loud and rude, and her mother to be kind and sweet. Her life she calls miserable, is filled with chores, drama, and suitors lots and lots of suitors. This novel begins in September of 1290. Catherine has three brothers (Robert, Thomas, and Edward) and her terrible father (Rollo) and sweet mother (Lady Aislinn) they live in a manor at Stonebridge in Lincoln, England. Her brother, Edward, has made her keep an account of her days, he thinks it will make her grow less childish, and the first thing Catherine notifies in the novel is that chores are torture. The next day (September 18th), Edward has gone to be a monk (a member of religious community). Daily, Catherine’s father (Rollo) asks Catherine, “Have you all you teeth? Is your breath sweet or foul? Are you a good eater? What color is your hair when it’s clean? How are your sewing and your bowels and your conversation?” Those are the moments when Catherine explains she misses her brothers.
