He uses wood block stamps to print designs on paper and silk, and is skilled in translating classical tales into images on folding fans. My interest is in art influenced through traditional Japanese- style hand scrolls Although Sotatsu comes from a family of well-to-do cloth merchants, his associates in the nobility give him access to these tradition style hand scrolls- a wealth of motifs and stylistic elements he is inspired by. As it turns out, he borrows quite freely from a wide range of sources, including the new methods of wood block printing used primarily to disseminate texts such as Buddhist scrolls to print designs on paper and silk.…

I also researched the colors of Buddhist sculptures during the time, and added some vibrant yellows, reds, and greens to these pieces of art. The sculptures are presented in three separate locations on the model, and the ones that came from the same caves are grouped together. Recognizing that these figures were part of a much larger and expansive set of divine figures, I also added the silhouette of other carvings near these six objects. Throughout the creation of this project, I used primary and secondary papers and photos, consulted experts at the museum, and a Harvard undergraduate student who concentrates in East Asian Studies. I nevertheless, experienced some problems in during the creation of the project: it was difficult to find out the exact colors of these sculptures, and I was also unable to obtain real sandstone for the…

Written by Taiaiake Alfred, “Wasase: Indigenous Pathways of Action and Freedom” expresses his perspective on the “warrior’s dance” of a non-violent spiritual revolution to free his people from colonial oppression. The author explores a history of war and corruption, reasons for rebellion, and approaches that will lead to a successful battle in favor of the indigenous people. Based on his presentation of both facts and opinions throughout his book, I believe he was able to capture and present the overall topic of discussion relatively well. Although his personal background as a Native person implicates a bias of judgment, it also serves as a good foundation of proof based on experience that he effectively incorporates in the book.…

The emphasis in Genealogy on dispersions, accidents, reversals, errors, and false appraisals points out to the fact that all the claims of representing truth or reality are questionable and our accessibility to the past is no more than textual investigation, or discursively constructed. He further suggests that genealogy is neither epistemological nor teleological- it is neither about the search for origins nor for the ends and the movements of history never follow a linear development. In fact, the argument proposed earlier that the historical sense permeating in Midnight’s Children is genealogical seems well justified if we delve deep into the account Saleem offers to his readers. First, in the traditional sense of genealogy, Saleem is writing his family history, and in the process the history of the nation, with the desire to carve out an important space for himself and his family in the larger historical framework of Indian history. Nothing in his account of family lineage is ahistorical, in fact, the whole course of history is being shaped by him and the lives of his family members.…
