Sometime during this period Ben Hall suffered a severe accident and broke his leg whilst attempting to ride the race horse of some renown on the western bush racetracks named 'Slasher', which had won a number of bush races and was now at Boyd Station. 'Slasher' had the reputation of an outlaw horse and rough to handle, the horse had been owned by Thomas Hanley of Money Money Station (Moony Moony) a neighbour of Hugh Hamilton. John Maguire, Ben Hall's future brother-in-law, wrote an account of Ben Hall's broken leg in 'The Biography of a Reliable Old Native',
