Salvador Dali or in full Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali y Domenech was born May 11, 1904 to Felipa Domenech Ferres and Salvador Dali Cusi, in Figures, Spain. Dali’s father Salvador Dali Cusi was an esteemed lawyer and notary, and his mother was unemployed. Dali had two siblings a younger sister, Ana Maria, and an older brother who was also named Salvador, born only 9 months before Dali and died of gastroenteritis. Dali’s parents took Dali to his brothers grave when he was 5 and told him that he was the reincarnation of his dead brother. This only helped grow his already overwhelming persona. When Dali was young he had sporadic and violent outbursts of anger towards his friends and family. Dali’s outbursts caused major conflict between his very strict father and his peers. Dali’s parents recognized this and encouraged his talent, building him an art studio in their summer home in Cadaques before enrolling him in the Colegio de Hermanos Maristas. His parents enrolled him in The Colegio de Hermanos Maristas In his late teen years. However, he was not a very serious student and preferred daydreaming, during this time he also discovered modern painting. Dali’s first art show was organized by his father in the Dali family home. In February of 1921 Dali’s mother died of breast cancer. His mother was very important to him, so this had a profound effect on Dali. In his words, it was ‘“the greatest blow I had experienced in my life.”’ Shortly thereafter his father married Dali’s aunt, although younger Dali respected and liked his aunt, but this did not bring father and son together, in fact they would continuously argue with each other until senior Dali’s’
