He calls this “Plan Number Seven: Keep Him Alive.” Pi uses his logic and realizes the companionship that Richard Parker provides is essential for his emotional health for example when the boat passes Pi without saving them, Pi says “I love you, Richard Parker. I fi didn’t have you now, I truly don’t know what i would do…” Pi shows how grateful he is for Richard Parker’s companionship and the fact that he is not alone in these experiences. When Pi decides to leave the island, he says that he “preferred to set off and perish in search of my own kind than to live a lonely half life of physical comfort and spiritual death on this murderous island” (Martel 282). Pi decides to leave the island because his reasoning tells him that the lack of human contact on this island will have him emotionally torn, and that staying on that island would be “to live a lonely half life.” This shows that Pi realizes the fact that he will lack any emotional comfort on that island. Pi takes the steps to leave this island because it lacks the ability to meet his emotional needs and uses his logic to figure this
