For humans, surviving in tough situations goes beyond just physical needs such as eating and drinking. It is necessary for people to have proper emotional and spiritual health as well. In the novel The Life Of Pi Pi is a boy on a lifeboat with a bengal tiger, and is trying to survive. Pi has to work in order to meet his emotional, spiritual, and physical needs.
