Many people would blame Friar John for the murder of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence was the one who married Romeo and Juliet even though he knew it wasn’t right. He never told their parents or made sure that they loved each other. Romeo went to talk to him about Juliet and Lawrence knew that their relationship started too soon “Oh, she knew well/Thy love did read by rote, that could not spell./But come, young waverer, come, go with me,/In one respect I’ll thy assistant be,/For this alliance may so happy prove/To turn your households' rancor to pure love” (II. iii. 88-92). Lawrence knew that Romeo moved on fast from Rosaline, but he decided that he would marry them to help with their families fighting. If he never married them, they wouldn’t be so in love which would cause them to kill themselves even though they just met each other. Juliet went to Friar Lawrence later on in the play to get advice. She needed advise on what to do about not marrying Paris. She was so desperate for anything “Hold, daughter. I do spy a kind of hope,/Which craves as desperate an execution/As that is desperate which we would prevent./If, rather than to marry County Paris,/Thou hast the strength of will to slay thyself,/Then is it likely thou wilt undertake/A thing like death to chide away this shame,/That copest with death himself to ’scape from it.An if thou darest, I’ll give thee remedy” (IV. i. 68-76).
