Who Is Responsible For Romeo And Juliet's Death?

Part 1: Who is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s Death? In the beginning of this story, Shakespeare says that Romeo and Juliet’s death was fate. He says that Romeo and Juliet’s death was inevitable. So, who helped along Romeo and Juliet’s “fate”? Which characters caused Romeo and Juliet to eventually kill themselves? I believe there are three main people who caused their demise: Capulet, Mercutio, and Friar Lawrence. Lord Capulet is the head of the Capulet household. You might describe him as a hothead, as he is quick to lose his temper. An example of this is on page 813, when he loses his temper when Juliet says she doesn’t want to marry Paris. So, how is Capulet involved in Romeo and Juliet’s death? Since Capulet is the head of the Capulet …show more content…
Mercutio is a leader, who is not afraid to say what he thinks is right, even if it hurts someone else. An example of this is on page 754, when he makes fun of Romeo for not going to the dance because of a silly dream that he had. Mercutio is also quick to lose his temper, like when he picks a fight with Tybalt on page 794. So how was he responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death? If Mercutio hadn’t convinced Romeo to go to the Capulet dance, then Romeo wouldn’t have met Juliet. And, if Mercutio hadn’t picked a fight with Tybalt, Romeo wouldn’t have been banished, because he wouldn’t have killed Tybalt for the revenge of Mercutio. Mercutio caused Romeo and Juliet’s suicide because he put them together at the party and he picked a fight with Tybalt, which led to Romeo’s …show more content…
So, if Romeo and Juliet had good advice, could they have lived to be with each other? The main person who gave them advice was Friar Lawrence, who advised Romeo and Juliet to get married and told Juliet to take the potion that would make her seem dead. If Friar Lawrence had told Romeo and Juliet not to get married illegally, then they wouldn’t eventually kill themselves. And, if Friar Lawrence had told Juliet just to run away with Romeo, then Romeo wouldn’t have thought that Juliet was dead, and he wouldn’t have killed himself. And last, but not least, Mercutio. Mercutio, the hothead, is one of the many reasons Romeo and Juliet killed themselves. So what would have happened if Mercutio didn’t die? Could he have helped Romeo and Juliet in their relationship? First off, if Mercutio didn’t die, then Romeo wouldn’t have been banished. And since Mercutio is against the idea of falling in love, he might have talked some sense into both Romeo and Juliet. He could have showed them that their marriage was wrong, and that falling in love and marrying within two days is

In Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, the cause of Mercutio's death can be attributed to the circumstances that surrounded the two families. The friction between the Capulets and Montague's family environments was quite a hostile one which supported multiple violent acts. Before Mercutio died, his last few words were, “A plague a’ both your houses!”(A3.S1.L108). Rather than blaming Tybalt for his death, Mercutio put a curse on both the Capulet and Montague houses. The emotional conflict between the families certainly played a dominant role in the death of Mercutio.…

For one his presence would have prevented Romeo from becoming obliged to kill Tybalt: “And Mercutio slain!” “And fire-eyed fury be my conduct now,” as one of the main motives for Romeo to chase the Capulet was simply to avenge his fellow comrade as the phrase “fire-eyed fury be my conduct now”, signals that Romeo was clearly letting delusion and vengeance cloud his thoughts; which would’ve been unnecessary if Mercutio was still alive. Equally he would’ve also prevented Romeo from getting banished and allowing the star cross’d lovers to potentially live together to make a difference between the endless family…

If Romeo would have listened to Friar, he could have had a long intimate marriage, but the fact that he got married so quick portrayed that they did not know anything about each other. Them taking things slower could have gave them the power to tell their parents about their relationship, or even give them time to run away together without the fact that Romeo was not present. To proceed, when Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio were walking, Benvolio mentioned to Mercutio that he was a very short-tempered person, and that he had many mood swings, after Mercutio tried to say that he was the one with these problems. However, as Benvolio implied Mercutio was talking about himself they crashed into Tybalt, who was a Capulet (their enemy). They then began to bicker and started a sword fight, as the text stated Mercutio saying the…
