Who is Truly Responsible? There are numerous possibilities for who is responsible for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Various characters are involved in the events which lead to the deaths of the two ill fated lovers. To start off, the family feud plus the idea of marriage within the two opposing sides was asking for an issue or severe consequence. Another scapegoat would be Friar Lawrence for marrying the feuding lovers, placing the substance in Juliet’s control, and failing to deliver the letter to Romeo stating the happening of Juliet's coma-like state. Further down the line, the blame could be laid upon Romeo for making impulsive decisions such as illegally buying a poison and killing himself in Juliet’s tomb seconds before she awakes. Countless mistakes and errors developed from many characters. At one point, the miserable fate was determined the second Romeo and Juliet fell in love. It was clear that two teenage lovers from opposite sides of a feuding family would not be able to successfully and openly love each other without consequences. On another point, Friar Lawrence was a fault himself. The friar’s plans and failures cost Juliet, Romeo, and Paris their own precious lives. The secret marriage, unsuccessful delivery of an important message, and risky substance in Juliet’s possession were the major errors performed by Friar Lawrence within this tragedy. Lastly, Romeo’s character traits sent him into a snowball effect which ends in him being a victim of himself. He makes impulsive decisions, such as obtaining a poisonous substance to kill himself once gaining knowledge of Juliet’s placement in the tomb. Overall, the blame of this tragic romance cannot be planted upon any specific identity within this
