When a holy man sins, he is no longer a holy man. A Reverend in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, was not the holy man he had claimed to be. Reverend Parris was a coward because his reputation meant more to him than the lives of others. He was also manipulative because he tried to convince Danforth that Proctor was out to overthrow the court. Lastly he was selfish because when Abigail fled Salem, he was only concerned with himself. While one person could not take full responsibility for the witch hunt, Parris played a major part in the catastrophe.
