Who Is Odysseus Clever

Decent Essays
Who is that trying to be cool? Odysseus. He is in ‘’the odyssey by homer’’. Odysseus is brave and clever guy. Heres why.
First he is clever. In the story he told the cyclops that his name was nobody so when he was yelling and his bros came to help him, he said nobody is hurting me. That is pretty clever because that changed that part because if he said his name was something else the cyclops and bros would have stayed and it would have been a game changer. This is something you can learn from and use it in real life because a stranger might walk up and ask for your name and other information about you. Secondly he is brave. One part that shows he was brave is when he stole from the cyclops. He stole the cyclops food and wine and slept in

Although Odysseus has weakness in part I, his mental and physical strength are the same in part I and part ll. Through Odysseus words he shows his mental strength. For instance Odysseus says “‘Cyclops, try some wine”(Od. 10 pg.289).Odysseus had the cyclops have some wine so he would be drunk and then he would be able to kill the cyclops.…

Another example of this is in the Cyclops. Odysseus was courageous because when the rest of his crew was freaking out and being scared of the Cyclop he was facing the monster to try to make an escape plan. Finally, Odysseus was an effective leader because he was determined. An example of this is when he burned Troy to the ground. Odysseus built a huge horse and got into the city…

Odysseus is a hero because of his cleverness and courage, but still has flaws that people are able to relate to. As Odysseus is in the giant's cave, he is able to figure out how to escape with minimal casualties. As the Giant asks him what his name is he is clever enough not to use his real name. Thinking ahead, he responds, “Nobody-that’s my name” (book 9 line 410).…

Odysseus has protected his family and the people who stand with him in the ways he knows best, so I believe that in the Odyssey by Homer that the main character Odysseus is a hero even though he had lost his men to the gods and monsters he came in contact with and had lied to his family he had to protect the people he loved from others that want to hurt him thought his loved ones. Odysseus is a hero in my view from the way that he tricks the Cyclops in to believing that his name is Nohbdy instead if Odysseus so when he and his men escape the Cyclops cannot tell who had been there. The reason Odysseus told the Cyclops that his name was Nohbdy was that he knew that if someone would have asked the cyclops who had tricked him and they could be one that would not know that he was alive and might be one of his enemy’s. When he was planning a way to escape eight of his men were eaten by the cyclops from the long wait from the making of the plain but it was one of the sacrifices he had to make for a better out come from them…

Anyone who is successful in completing a gallant and courageous act, can be considered a hero. In The Odyssey, Odysseus is an admirable hero because he uses strategy instead of strength to overcome several obstacles. Homer presents this in Odysseus’s use of deception, the route he chooses to get home, his choice of words and his use of disguises. To overcome a hurdle one may wish for a great deal of strength. Yet when Odysseus came in contact with a giant Cyclops, he never questioned nor focused on his lack of vitality.…
