Toughest Things I Lost My Best Friend

All throughout life everyone experiences difficult situations that help mold them as people. People have to go through hard and sad times to become stronger and develop as a person. The toughest thing I have ever faced was losing my best friend Dylan. He was like a brother to me, and sadly he passed from a drug overdose. That one life changing event did so much for me as person. For the first time, I had actually lost someone I was close to and loved. This was undoubtedly the hardest situation I have ever been through but it helped me develop as person. It taught me how to deal with death; it made me stronger as a person, and it also taught me to value my life. I will always miss my friend but to some extent it made me a better person. I was sixteen when Dylan passed. To that point I had never lost anyone close to me. All of my relatives were alive and I was very young so I had not yet lost one of my friends. Dylan pushed the most limits but none of us were doing the right things or being safe. At the time all of us were drinking every weekend, smoking marijuana, and had slightly experimented with other drugs. We were not thinking about our future or health; we were just living for the moment not fully aware that life can be taken away at any moment. We didn’t truly value our life based on the decisions we were making. Once Dylan passed I began to realize that life was a privilege and the decisions I was making were putting me in danger of losing that privilege. It was at that point I stopped doing drugs all together. I stopped doing as many things that put my life in danger. Dylan overdosing was a reality check for me that had such a huge impact. Today I value my life so much more and I am fully aware that every morning I wake up I am blessed to see another
